Context and Discovery Found under the plaster of the north-western wall inside the tower of Tingstäde Church. On the left side when entering. HS
Measurements, Material and Condition Worked into a rectangular block. Small part of a very big whirl motif preserved on the right side (visible in new 3D models). The preserved circular rosette pattern motif has a diameter of 37 cm, which is unusually big for the smaller paired motifs underneath a central whirl motif. Therefore, Nylén and Lamm (2003) estimate that the picture stone reached up to 4 m. The paint was applied later. The rosette motif is well preserved and very neatly done, most likely by use of a compass. The secondarily painted version, however, does not give justice to the quite deeply carved out parts between and inside the rosette arms. The fragmented condition of this stone only allows for a vague height reconstruction of 2.80 or taller, based on comparisons to GP 196 Hellvi Ire I and GP 350 Sanda kyrka IV. The width reconstruction of 1.08 m is, on the other hand, probably quite accurate since the decoration of these stones was always symmetrical and the preservation of one paired circular motif allows this estimation. The tall stele GP Sanda kyrka IV, thereby, still has a broader width, which is why a size estimation of over 4 m as Nylén and Lamm (2003) suggested is unlikely. The large size of the circular motif is more likely owed to the fact that there are no other figurative decorations around them that would require more space. A total size taller than 2.80 is, however, still possible since we do not know for sure whether the stones of the Väte Group used to have a boat as bottom decoration. HS
