Context and Discovery In the 1926 inventory (Go Stenkyrka sn Fornminnesinventering; see also ATA dnr 261/27, 5001/27, and Lindqvist 1941/42 II, p. 130) it is noted that the picture stone had been discovered a couple of years ago previously. It was found close to the farmstead of Tystebols in Stenkyrka parish during the construction of a bridge. The small slab was encountered in a field next to the old road, which leads from the farm Västris in Tingstäde to Tystebols and which about 60 m east of Tystebols crosses a ditch. The finder, Harry Andersson, took the stone home to his farmstead Tune/Stenstugu, about 450 m north of Tystebols, and placed it in his garden. According to the 1976 inventory it has been incorporated into a rock garden, together with GP 373 Stenkyrka Lillbjärs XIX (RAÄ 18:1), a gravklot (18:3), and a stone with grinding grooves (svärdslipningssten).

Measurements, Material and Condition The fragment represents the upper half or perhaps the two upper thirds of a small mushroom-shaped picture stone. The shape of the head is well-preserved, as is the left edge of the body. The right edge of the body, however, is broken off. The limestone slab is 10 cm thick, its height now is 58 cm, the head is 41.5 cm wide, the neck 30.5 cm (Lindqvist 1941/42 II, p. 130). The narrow sides are rounded towards the reverse, which is rough and uneven. The stone’s obverse is even and without any traces of decoration. Photos of the stone taken by M. Stenberger in 1940 (cf. Lindqvist 1941/42 II, figs. 527–528) and T. Carlsson/B. Bergman in 1927 are kept in ATA (Run- och bildstenssamling 853:59, 1290:45).
Description of Ornament and Images No carvings discernable
Interpretation of the Imagery No interpretation
Type and Dating Mushroom-shaped late type dwarf stone, which means Lindqvist’s “Abschnitt” C/D or E (1941/42 I, p. 44). As no decoration is preserved at all, the monument can only be roughly dated to between the 8th century and around AD 1100.

Bildstenen påträffades några år före 1926 vid konstruktionen av en bro, i en åker vid vägen mellan Västris och Tystebols, cirka 60 m öster om Tystebols. Upphittaren tog bildstenen till sin gård Tune.
