Context and Discovery
According to Lindqvist (1941/42 II, p. 44), the stone was discovered in a field about 500 m south of the farmstead St. Tollby, and kept next to the residential house in 1932, but transferred to Gotlands Museum in 1938. According to the 1927 inventory (ATA dnr 4031/27), it was found around 1926 while ploughing next to an old stone cobbled path. A photo of the stone taken by Ture Carlsson at the farmstead in 1927 (817:1a) as well as a photo taken by H. Faith-Ell in 1933 (1649:1, cf. Lindqvist 1941/42 II, fig. 42), both without secondary paint, are kept in ATA.

Measurements, Material and Condition
“Limestone slab, 10 cm thick. The obverse almost even, probably hewn, the narrow sides hewn at right angles to the obverse, with a chamfer between them. The reverse is unworked. The total height of the stone is 70 cm, above the base 57 cm, the height of the head is 13 cm, its width 49 cm, the width of the neck 35 cm, that of the base 46 cm” (Lindqvist 1941/42 II, p. 44). The stone is completely preserved, including its root, which features a horizontal lower edge. The surface is much weathered, a bit rough and features fossil inclusions.

Description of Ornament and Images
Lindqvist (1941/42 II, p. 44) notes that “[…] only indistinct remains are preserved of shallow lines belonging to the border, some traces of two horizontal lines and possibly of a rhombic pattern between them.” However, these remains are not visible on the photos and very difficult to verify.

Interpretation of the Imagery
No interpretation

Type and Dating
Middle-type picture stone, i.e., Type B according to Lindqvist, dating to between AD 500 and 700. The stone belongs to those Type B stones described by Lindqvist (1941/42 I, pp. 38–39) as ʻdwarf stonesʼ with convex head and strongly pronounced corners protruding horizontally. Lindqvist assigns it to his Sojvidegruppe (1941/42 I, pp. 36–37), which is characterized by the shape described above and simple or no remaining decoration at all. Concerning shape, GP 106 Gothem Bentebingels (I) and GP 335 Rute Ala are notable parallels.
